CSU boss Markus Söder calls for the resignation of the defense minister. She was “completely overwhelmed”.
According to a media report, CSU boss Markus Söder has called for Defense Minister Christine Lambrecht to be replaced by Chancellor Olaf Scholz (both SPD). According to a report by the “Bild” newspaper, Söder said at the CSU board meeting on Monday that Lambrecht was “completely overwhelmed”.
“She embarrasses Germany in front of Ukraine and our western partners,” Söder was further quoted as saying. “Scholz should actually make a cabinet move.” Lambrecht had recently been criticized from several sides for hesitant or non-existent arms deliveries to Ukraine.
Green leader Omid Nouripour has also criticized Defense Minister Christine Lambrecht (SPD) for what he believes to be insufficient arms deliveries to Ukraine. It was “very unsatisfactory” if, after weeks of war, there was still no synchronization between the needs of Ukraine and German deliveries, Nouripour said on Monday in the ZDF “Morgenmagazin”.
It cannot be the case that, for example, the Marder-type armored personnel carriers requested by the Ukraine simply sit around unused in Germany and are not delivered. “We have to get better together,” said Nouripour. Germany will “of course” have to deliver more weapons to Ukraine, so the question now is what is available and at what speed it can be delivered.
